511NY Launched...Seeking Cooperative Partners ITS-NY is a Cooperative Partner with New York State Department of Transportation’s (NYSDOT) recently launched 511NY initiative. 511NY is the free, official one-stop, all-encompassing telephone and Web service offering information on transportation services and conditions throughout New York State. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and eliminates having to keep many individual phone numbers and Web sites. Just visit www.511ny.org or dial 511!
On 511 New York, you’ll get dynamic information on traffic and weather conditions; a transit trip planner spanning multiple service providers with information on schedules, routes, fares and park-and-ride lots; carpool, vanpool and ride-share referrals; tourism links, bicycling information and more. The traffic information includes congestion, incidents, traffic camera images, travel speeds and times, highway construction work zones and special, planned events. A personalized subscription service can provide alerts of major incidents and can be customized to give alerts for a particular area, county and travel corridor. The system offers a critical, single-point information source during transportation emergencies.
Your organization can become a Cooperative Partner with 511NY as well. It’s simple, free and will provide your constituents with important transit, travel and transportation information. As a Cooperative Partner you can distribute 511NY brochures or post the 511NY link and logo on your website.
